cats that have faces like this with the colors split down the middle means that there were two cats in the mummy cats womb that merged together in the early stages of fertilization.
it’s actually called a chimera and is when 2 eggs fuse and 2 sperm fuse and then fertilise eachother to create an organism with 2 seperate sets of traits but we can make stuff up i guess
Actually, both of these would produce a chimera.
However, what you’re seeing here is actually selective X activation in a cell. In a female cat (XX), only one of the two X chromosomes can be active in a cell. The coat and eye color genes for orange/black and blue/green are both sex linked in cats, carried on the X. So in a female cat, you get a cell thats either a black cell or an orange cell. Ditto eye color. The splitting pattern is caused by the way a cell doubling and folding occur in the formation of the embryo during development. Everywhere you see black fur was originally from a single cell on the embryo that had the X with the gene for black fur active. Every cell with orange came from another single cell with the OTHER X active. thus why the face is split, but the paws are mirrored.
1. Genetics is fucking metal.
2. SHE’S SO PRETTY. O_O
